World Squash Day at Squash Zone!

Squash Zone welcomed 30 enthusiastic members to the club on Saturday October 12th to celebrate World Squash Day (a tradition which started out as a commemoration of those whose lives were lost in 9/11). Players of all ages rose bright and early to participate in our Round Robin event, Play the Pro and Richard's Wooden Racket Challenge

Round Robin

30 of our members partook in the this format to get the limbs warmed up for the other events of the day. Played over 5 courts, members played one game against each other ensuring everyone was able to get some court time.

Play The Pro

Leonard Mohr, our Squash on Track Program Director and Assistant Squash Pro was on hand for members to put their skills to the test. $300 was raised through a point per dollar system with all proceeds going to our urban squash program: Squash on Track.

Richard's Wooden Racket Challenge

Rolling back the years, Richard took to the court with a wooden racket while members stepped up one and the other to see if modern technology and lighter rackets could get the better of the old school! It wasn't to be however as Richard stood undefeated at the end of the day despite a few close calls!

Overall it was a most enjoyable day had by all at Squash Zone with members enjoying a Potluck lunch after the hard efforts on the court ensuring the mission of Squash Zone - to build a sustainable squash community and introduce the game to new players - remains strong.
